HAPPY WORLD TRAVEL AGENCY
The summer travel
season is almost here. If you're looking for deals, make sure you don't
become a victim of a fraud when trying to score
a bargain SmarterTravel.com contributing editor Ed Perkins offers
scams that are most common and what you can do to avoid them. Everyone
looks for breathtaking travel bargains, and perhaps a few will pan out for
you. Pre-payment usually is required for travel products. But there
are companies out there who prey on your instincts to save money on travel. According
to the American Society of Travel Agents, the most worrisome is a perennial one:
the business model that demands payment up front sending cash or with only a
wire transfer for travel later. Online auctions like Priceline or Hotwire
do not disclose its vendors until after your bid is accepted. We're not
talking about special promotions,
airfare sales and other special offers here. They expire, and sometimes you must move quickly to meet the
deadline. Question the experience and tenure of the employees. Are
they members with the Better Business Bureau? Don't pay with cash or wire
transfers but use a ACH check authorization or credit card as they could
guarantee your purchase.
This is so very true.
